Accelerated Reader & Accelerated Math

Accelerated Reader

My understanding of this topic:
Most of my background knowledge of this topic comes from my experience with Accelerated Reader in elementary and middle school. This software uses a quiz-based managing system that gives feedback to students and teachers on the books that the students choose to read. There are certain books that are compatible with this program, and many that are now aligned with the Common Core State Standards. It is suggested that teachers give 30-60 minute block of time to dedicate to reading for the students that will use this program. The students will complete books by independent reading, class group readings, or read-alouds by the teacher and follow up the reading with a quiz on the software program. Students earn points as they continue to read books, and in most cases, teachers use some type of reward system after setting individual reading goals for the students. This program is mainly used to to motivate and monitor students' reading skills and achievements.

Accelerated Math

My understanding of this topic:
Like Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math is a monitoring software that can be used in the classroom to track the progress of math skills in students. This program allows teachers to make individualized tests, worksheets, or practice problems for students in any area of math. The program grades and gives data of each students performance so that they can easily access information and make instructional modifications or interventions where needed. This program, also like the Accelerated Reader program, excites and motivates students to do extra practice and work hard towards their math goals.
